Thank You SO Much!
After playing in AI and finetuning my gears thanx to this great tutorial, i got to wonder: And made up another way to do an easy gear:
1: Make a star
2: Make a circle just a little smaller than the star, to cut off the tips
3: Use the pathfinder tool to 'cut' off the tips
4: Done!
(Its possible to vary with just some more circles)

Hi Peggy,

To create a ten-sided star.

-First is to pick the star tool from the toolbox (the default tool for 'shape' is 'rectangle' so you need to hold the left mouse button then pick 'star') http://labs.chemist2dio.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/star_tool.gif

-Hold and drag across the screen but before releasing your left-mouse button press the up arrow key until it reaches ten sides.

I am a newbie trying to do the vector gears, but I don't understand how to create a ten-sided star; I need specific directions for it.
